A word family is a group of words that share the same ending or a rime. The following words are included in the -uke word family and make the long oo sound like in the word moon:
duke | nuke | puke | fluke |
This word family contains a vowel as well as a final consonant sound, e.g. “uke” in “duke“ and our list only includes one syllable words. Word families help young readers notice features of words, e.g., patterns and rimes; they are helpful when teaching both reading and spelling.
