5th Grade Spelling Words

Our elementary school implemented a new 5th grade spelling program. Fifteen spelling words are selected from three categories.

Personal Words: Five words a student misspells on his writing assignments. If more words are needed, he will select from a word bank.

Exploration Words: Five words are selected that emphasize how words are written, e.g., suffixes and prefixes.

Content Words: Five words are chosen from an elected subject, e.g., science and social studies.

Fifth Grade Spelling Words

The personal words will be unique to each student. This spelling program selects 15 words that are meaningful to our children, creating a desire to learn how to spell them correctly. Parents should offer assistance, e.g., conduct a spelling test.

First a child needs to learn the location of each state. We created the following two templates to offer assistance.

After a child knows the location of each state, they need to correctly spell each state. Our fifth grade spelling program divided the 50 states into 3 sections. We created the following worksheets to help your child learn how to spell the fifty states correctly.
