I woke up this morning filled with an overwhelming amount of gratitude – so grateful for the health of my husband and children as well as ALL my family members and for all of their love and support. Extremely grateful for all my friends who I miss dearly (a big shout out to Zoom for keeping lines of communication open for many of us). Beyond grateful for all the medical personnel, first responders and all the essential workers who have been working to keep all of us safe.

I turned fifty today and while my celebration will certainly be dialed down a notch for this milestone birthday. I am just so thankful I am able to celebrate it with my family that I have been spending countless hours with as we continue to be quarantined.

Several weeks ago, my husband asked what my ideal birthday celebration would be. I replied that I want to give my lectures, play tennis and go out to a nice restaurant with family and then spend the weekend at a nice getaway for some much needed R&R. In such a small of amount of time, so much has changed. My lectures are online, most tennis courts are closed, dinner is takeout only, the getaway is completely out of the picture and there a flood watch for my area today.

I am reminded of the saying that that when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. There is no doubt that this pandemic is certainly a lemon. My lemonade is that I am able to spend my birthday at home with my family. I accept my new normal and encourage you to make lemonade with the lemons in your life.

A huge thank you to Katie and Tom for sending me birthday decorations that arrived last night so my hilarious family could decorate my kitchen for my 50th birthday and include a baby balloon.
