The Letter Q

The letter Q has no sound of its own. It is almost always followed by the letter u and makes the /kw/ sound as heard in the words queen, quick and liquid. This consonant sound ranks in the rare category along with its counterparts: x, y & z. On a few occasions, the letters qu sounds like the letter K, e.g., conquer and bouquet.

The uppercase Q is formed as follows: around, close, lift and slant right. The lowercase r is formed as follows: around, up, down and hook right.
