Sight Word Activities

Writing in a journal is another great exercise to help your child learn the 25 kindergarten sight words. Write the sight words 5 – 10 times and complete the sentences below. Draw a picture and when ready, have your child label it.

Sight Words

Another great exercise to help your child obtain a sight word vocabulary uses the 25 sight words noted below and index cards. Using an index card, lower-case letters and black marker, create flash cards for each sight word. Consider cutting off the upper left-hand corner so you can easily shuffle the cards and still have all the sight words face the same direction. Select a few cards. Show your child the card and slowly say the word. When ready, mix up the cards and then “flash” them to your child who should quickly recognize the sight words. Correct her when she mispronounces a word or offer assistance when needed. Begin with a few words and over time gradually build a sight word vocabulary – always review previously taught words.
