We offer numerous long e worksheets that help a child learn the various long e spelling patterns. We categorize each worksheet into 1 of 4 categories:
- Vowel teams (“ea” & “ee”),
- Irregular vowel team (“ie”),
- Open syllable rule, and
- “Y” as a vowel (more than 2 syllable words).
Long E Worksheets – Vowel Teams
When two vowels go walking, the first does the talking! The first vowel says its name and the second vowel is silent. The combination of both “ee” and “ea” result in the long e sound.

Long E Worksheets – Irregular Vowel Team
As noted above the vowel team rule states when two vowels go walking the first does the talking. In some words, the combination of the letters “i” and “e” result in a long “i” sound, e.g., pie, dried, tries. However, the same combination can result in a long “e” sounds as noted in the worksheets below.
