Sight Word Worksheets: Picture Clues
Using the five sight words below, we created a fun worksheet that includes how to properly write each sight word as well as a fun game that has a child interacting with both common nouns and sight words.
| the | and | a | to | in |
The worksheet below uses pictures of common words to decode sight words. This is a great exercise that reinforces both sight words and the common sounds that each letter represents. To help your child develop phonemic awareness, break down the words into separate sounds. For example, the word, fin, contains three sounds (phonemes): /f/, /i/, and /n/. Say each individual sound and then say ffff … iii… nnn to blend the sounds so your child recognizes the word, fin . Consider writing the word on a piece of paper and point to each letter as you say the sound. Ask questions like what words do you know that rhyme with fin? These exercises are great to use on the following CVC words:
| Common Word | Sounds | Rhyming Words |
| fin | /f/, /i/ & /n/ | bin, pin, tin & win |
| top | /t/, /o/ & /p/ | cop, hop, mop & pop |
| hat | /h/, /a/ & /t/ | bat, cat, fat & rat |
